PROFILE
Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong underwent an extensive US$150 million renovation in 2006 which brought the hotel into the 21st century; a renovation of event spaces in 2014 saw the MICE facili-ties upgraded. With its convenient location in the centre of Hong Kong's business district and with direct links to the airport, the hotel is well situated for access to the business and entertainment hubs of Hong Kong.

FRONT DESK
As you enter the somewhat understated lobby from the main entrance on Connaught Road Cen-tral, you receive a warm welcome from bellhops who, with their military drummer boy-style hats, hark back to a bygone era. Guests can also pick up on this old-world charm through the furnish-ings, like the ornate rugs, and dark marble-clad walls.

ROOM SERVICE
Between the 501 rooms (430 rooms and 71 suites) there are 12 room types which are all individ-ually furnished and decorated to reflect the hotel's Oriental heritage. The Howarth Suite, named for the building's architect John Howarth, is one of three signature suites. 

Rooms are decorated in one of two styles. Taipan rooms are decorated in the more masculine tones of brown and tangerine, while Verandah rooms are light blue and cream with walnut panel-ing. Rooms feature all the amenities you would expect from a luxury hotel, with additional details including binoculars in harbour-facing rooms and valet boxes, which ensure absolute privacy. 

ENTERTAINMENT
 The property has 10 dining and drinking outlets offering, among other choices, two-Michelin-starred contemporary French cuisine at Pierre, Chinese cuisine at one-Michelin star Man Wah, traditional British fare at The Chinnery, and drinks at the casual and cosy Captain's Bar. The Clip-per Lounge offers afternoon tea (which is somewhat of an institution in Hong Kong), and M Bar on the 25th floor serves up a large selection of cocktails and light dishes with harbour views. 

MEETING POINT
Smaller, intimate facilities make the hotel an idea choice for small meeting groups, VIPs and spe-cial themed events. The hotel has nearly 1,800 square metres of function space that is equipped with the latest technology, including intelligent lighting systems, presentation equipment with ceil-ing suspended projectors, large LCD screens with surround sound and Wi-Fi. A function host is on hand throughout events to offer support should a problem arise and IT butlers are on call. 

 The new Charter Room on the second floor offers around 530 square metres of adjustable space with a modern design. Natural daylight and views of Victoria Harbour are big pluses as is the ad-joining 24-hour business centre (which is fully equipped with high-speed internet access, printing and photocopying services and secretarial and translation services).

X-FACTOR
The hotel's attention to detail, luxe ambience and central location in the heart of Hong Kong's business district makes it an appealing option.
