Malaysia's business events industry is cutting its teeth with bigger wins, having recently hosted the 13th UFI Asia-Pacific Conference 2018 in Kuala Lumpur.

Held from March 1-2 at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, the two-day conference was hosted by Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MoTAC), and organised by UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.

The conference drew a gathering of members and trade players.

At its welcome reception themed 'Spice Market', top executives from MoTAC, MyCEB, Malaysia Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers, ASWARA, UFI and Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) were in attendance. The distinguished VIPs were also treated to the Lion Dance Eye Dotting ceremony to celebrate the Chinese New Year Festival.

"We believe that the hosting of the UFI Asia-Pacific Conference is an excellent opportunity to showcase our progressive facilities and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia's investment into this industry.

"We were also the platform for experts to congregate and share knowledge with 250 delegates contributing greatly in terms of insights and expertise," said Datuk Zulkefli Hj. Sharif, MyCEB's chief executive officer.

Prior to the conference, UFI also organised an education programme with students from local universities. Held on February 28 at Sunway University, the programme provided an avenue for students considering a career in the industry.

Besides MITEC, UFI Asia-Pacific Conference 2018 was also supported by sponsors such as Asia Experience, Doremi, MITEC, Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau, Pico, Qube, Sabah Convention Bureau, and Sabah International Convention Centre.
