The iconic Galle Face Hotel, which opened in 1864, has appointed Robert C. Hauck as its new general manager and area vice president.

Hauck, a respected hospitality professional with more than 25 years of experience, has been chosen to lead the hotel. His career includes stints with leading hotel groups such a Raffles and Shangri-La in more than 10 countries and territories. 

Most recently the general manager of Kanuhura, a luxury resort in the Maldives, Hauck was responsible for the hotel's relaunch following a multi-million-dollar renovation.

He joins illustrious company as the 36th GM and second German national in the position following Mr Stchutz (1902-1914). Among the famous ranks of its employees is Kottarapattu Chattu Kuttan, who welcomed famous dignitaries to the hotel in a career spanning 72 years making him the longest serving doorman in the world.
